An F word has filled my head during the entirety of this novel. This novel which has made me tremble.
It's written with a mesmerizing sense of fairy-tale wonder turned into horror where monsters lurk inside ruthless business men dressed in expensive suits. Well, I marveled and dreaded that man. Gabriel Miller.
He's chillingly cold, scarily ardent.
The crude dialogues, the despair of a woman who's lost everything but keeps fighting to retain a resemblance of what she loved, the intimacy of the narrative plagued with vulnerability and dark manipulation.
I was really excited to read this second book, utterly intrigued to know more about Gabriel and if he'd redeem himself for all the dark deeds against Avery. He behaves like a mastermind of chess with real-life pawns, yet other times he pounces on his `little virgin' like a predator.
I was entranced by the emotional war that's going on in Avery's head, at odds with her inexplicable attraction to his dominance.
It's an accomplishment when an author creates a story where a man hurts the heart of a woman but ignites her body, and yet you crave every second of the magnetic pull of the story. The end of the first novel left me as devastated as Avery. I was hoping for Gabriel to redeem himself somewhat in this second part, and we definitely get to know him in lurid, dark, perfectly amazing detail.
And Avery suffers so many deadly secrets being thrown against her! She's also a phoenix rising from her ashes, stronger, smarter and wiser.
Next will be The Castle, and I'm oh so ready for it.

This series just keeps getting better and better!
The second book in the Endgame series begins shortly after the events at the end of book 1, The Pawn. Avery is alone, broke and living in a trashy motel. Gabriel is still Gabriel. With the auction for Avery’s beloved home looming, she must turn to the one person who set this ball rolling and the man she can’t seem to forget - Gabriel.
We get a deeper look into Avery and Gabriel, their pasts and the inner workings of their relationship. A new player in the game is introduced. Those who appears to be enemies might just be allies.
The chess game continues in The Knight! You do NOT want to miss this!
Skye Warren has done it again! What a marvellous book, full of steam, secrets and danger! I loved every word of The Knight and Gabriel was a hero I loved despite all the manipulation and lies he wove.
Avery has found herself in a hard and dangerous game of chess. The question is if she will allow herself to be just a pawn or if she will make it her mission to win the game. She was such a strong heroine and probably one of my favorite Skye Warren characters. It was a joy being inside her head.
The author surprised me with this book. She took the storyline to places I didn't expect and it was such a joy to discover every secret and uncover every lie that hid among the pages.
Avery must now get back what's hers. She wants the house she grew up in and she will get it no matter the cost. She has already sacrificed herself and she won't let it be for nothing. She plays a game of push and pull with Gabriel but who will win and who is really her enemy? Read to find out!
I cannot wait for The Castle and see what the author has in store for us!
I highly recommend it. With Skye Warren you cannot go wrong. Expect darkness, passion and twists and turns that will have your head spinning! I loved it!

HOLY WOW!
This book was absolutely fantastic! I loved the first book The Pawn but Skye Warren out did herself with this one! The Knight has a lot of suspense, twists and turns and the reader is left on the edge of their seat waiting and wanting to know what happens next. This book had so much depth and a well-developed plot. The characters were so dynamic I feel like I got to know so much more about them in this second installment. I stayed up all night to read this book and by the time I was done I could not even sleep because this story was so stuck in my mind. I spent hours trying to process all my emotions and my feelings for everything that occurred in this book.
The book picks up where The Pawn ended and we get to see so many new things with Avery and Gabriel. Avery is forced to grow up and has to learn to live on her own and to take her life into her own hands. She is given so many hard decisions to make and is abandoned by most of the people she has ever loved. We see her emotions and struggles in this book. We get to go deep into her soul about her life when she was a child and how she feels and reacts to her past in the present. I loved her character in this book! She was so strong willed and would never give up no matter how bad her life got, she would get back up and fight for whatever little dignity she had left.
Gabriel "God, you really did forget. You thought I was your knight in **** armor, riding in to defend your castle."
Avery "No," I whisper but I'm terrified he's right. I thought I had kept my guard up, but now I see how utterly defenseless I am. He's not going to save my castle. He's going to burn it down.
Gabriel was on fire in this installment! I hated him in The Pawn but Skye got me to love him so much in this book! We got to see so many different sides of Gabriel. We get to see inside his soul and into the depths of his heart. On the outside he is so hard and so put together but on the inside there is a broken man, a man dying to give his heart to someone, even though he would never show it. His filthy mouth and the way he revealed all his dynamic parts in this book set me on fire! I loved him more by the time the book was over.
Avery "My fingertip touches each piece on the black side-king. queen. Knight. An unusual piece because of the way it moves. Forward and sideways. The only piece able to jump other pieces. Not the most powerful on the board, but the most dangerous in closed positions."
This book had so many twists and turns I was not expecting! One thing that is fascinating is how the plot turned from something so somber to something so intense that by the time I was done reading I needed a moment to catch my breath. Let's just say that all the characters in this book are hiding secrets. You think you may know them but wait until you read this book you will be left with your mouth open and wanting to read the next book as soon as possible. Skye Warren took me on a roller coaster of a ride. She took me to places I never could have imagined with the in depth plot and the well development of every character in the book. I cannot wait for The Castle I need more answers, more of this amazing story and more of the fantastic characters Skye was able to make come to life.
